Nearly 125 years ago, the first Ferris Wheel was seen at the fairs. The first wheel was invented and named after Geroge Washington Ferris and was a very popular ride. It is a common amusement ride which everyone loves irrespective of age. Nowadays, modern electric motors are used to operate them. However, 125 years earlier, it was the mere concept of gravity that helped rotate the same.
Carousels
Although you have seen the same in every outdoor carnival event, however, many other names are for carousels. You might’ve heard people calling it by names like merry go round, hurdy-gurdy and roundabout. The major theme of carousels is the horses, tigers, and zebras attached for riders to sit. It is said that carousels were built during the 1800s and 1900s, and millions of people to date have enjoyed this ride in different carnivals worldwide.
Bumper cars
During the initial days, when bumper cars were built first, they were made of tin. Hence, they were not very safe for the children. With time, pieces of metal would be found falling apart here and there. However, the versions of the bumper car that you see nowadays are more child-friendly; they are made of rubbers and hence have no chances of falling apart.
Tilt-a-whirl
No matter which carnival you visit, a tilt-a-whirl is a common ride that you’ll find. Every carnival hires a version of the same. It is said that this ride was invented during the 1920s by Herbert W. Sellner. He had successfully built around 14 Tilt-a-whirls.
